Amal the doctor

Amal the Doctor is a beginner ESOL reader for adult learners. The story follows Amal, a doctor who works in a clinic and helps patients with their health. Through simple, everyday situations, readers are introduced to vocabulary related to healthcare, medical appointments and common health concerns.

Designed for pre-entry and beginner ESOL learners, the book uses short sentences, repetition and supportive illustrations to help develop reading confidence and understanding. It is particularly suitable for learners who are developing literacy alongside English or who are becoming familiar with the Latin alphabet.

The story provides opportunities to explore practical language that learners may encounter when accessing healthcare services, including vocabulary related to doctors, patients, medicine, symptoms and appointments.
